Let Freedom Ring

The United States of America celebrated its 250th anniversary of independence on July 4, 2026. There were fireworks, special events, and many other festivities as we reflected on the freedoms we enjoy as a nation.

The inscription on the Liberty Bell, which hangs in Independence Hall in Philadelphia, includes these words from Leviticus 25:10 (KJV): “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” While this verse has become associated with our nation’s history, it points us to a greater truth: true freedom comes from the Lord. Freedom from sin, guilt, and spiritual bondage are a few examples of the liberty found in Him.

John 8:36 (ESV) declares, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” The freedom we seek cannot be found in this world; it is found only in Christ through His Spirit.

The freedom He gives transforms lives, heals brokenness, and offers hope to those who seek Him. The following testimony from Tina Pierce, Nebraska Ladies Ministries president, is a powerful reminder that God’s saving grace continues to change lives today.

My Conversion: A Journey to Freedom

When I think about my conversion, I realize it has been much more than a moment—it has been a journey to freedom.

As a young woman living in Kansas, I was confused, lonely, and carrying hurts from my past. Then God sent two young men who knocked on my door every Saturday morning, inviting me to a Pentecostal church service. Their persistence left a lasting impression on me and planted a passion for evangelism in my heart.

Eventually, I made them a deal: “I’ll come one time if you promise never to knock on my door again.” They agreed.

At nineteen, I attended one of their youth services. I don’t remember the songs or announcements, but I will never forget what happened next. Sitting three pews back on the left side of the church, I felt the presence of Jesus so strongly that it was as if He sat down beside me and wrapped His arms around me. Tears began to flow, and within moments, God filled me with the Holy Ghost. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced.

That night changed my life.

Over the years, God blessed me with spiritual parents, Mike and Cathy Conn, who invested in me and taught me the importance of prayer, God’s Word, and faithful living. Yet conversion was still a process. 

God continued to transform my mind, heal old wounds, and help me lay down the baggage of my past. There were struggles, setbacks, and seasons when I wandered, but God never stopped pursuing me. His mercy continually drew me back to Him.

Today, God is still working in my life. I am blessed to serve in His kingdom as a credentialed minister in my local church. But the most important part of my walk with God is reaching souls. I’ll never forget someone knocked on my door when I was hurting and searching.

My story is proof that God answers prayers. He can restore, heal, and transform a life. Freedom may be a process, but it is worth every step. The same God who changed me is still changing lives today.

“As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God” (Psalm 42:1, NKJV).
