Learning to Breathe Again

What is God giving you permission to release?

Freedom isn’t always about breaking chains you can see.

Many women today are living under a quiet kind of bondage. We are exhausted from trying to be enough, overwhelmed by constant streams of information, and burdened by the belief that we must hold everything together. We long for rest, yet often forget how to receive it.

Perhaps finding freedom is, in part, learning to breathe again in the presence of God—releasing the impossible demands of modern life and receiving the freedom Jesus offers.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1, NIV).

The “yokes” might look different today, but the invitation remains the same:

  • Freedom from perfectionism. The pressure to earn approval—God’s, others’, or even our own. Grace invites us to move from striving to surrender.
  • Freedom from comparison. Social media turns comparison into a daily reflex, yet Scripture reminds us that God calls each person by name and purpose, not by competition.
  • Freedom from exhaustion. Busyness is often worn as a badge of honor, even as the soul grows weary. Jesus’ invitation remains radical: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28, NIV).
  • Freedom from digital noise. We are constantly connected yet often disconnected from God. Quiet time with Him becomes a spiritual discipline of liberation.
  • Freedom from emotional overload. Constant exposure to demands, news, and relational pressures can leave us carrying burdens never meant to be ours. Freedom often begins with the sacred practice of release.

The Israelites knew they had been enslaved because they were forced to make bricks for Pharaoh. Today’s “Pharaohs” are harder to identify, but their voices still press in:

  • “Produce more.”
  • “Measure your life against theirs.”
  • “Never disappoint anyone.”
  • “Rest when everything is finished.”
  • “Stay informed about everything.”
  • “If you let go, everything will fall apart.”

And yet these demands leave us just as breathless.

In Scripture, breath is closely tied to life, the Spirit, renewal, and God’s sustaining presence. If you feel as though you’ve been holding your breath for years, hear this invitation: God invites you to exhale.

What is God giving you permission to release?

That movement—from bondage to breath, striving to surrender, noise to peace—is the pathway into true freedom.
