When we elevate beauty apart from God, we begin to idolize it. The grandeur of mountain peaks, the human form, delicate flowers, and all other beautiful things are intended to illustrate their Creator’s magnificence. If we focus on the form that was created instead of the Creator, we place the weight of glory on a created thing that shouldn’t be worshipped or adored.
The issue is not that we pursue beauty too much but that we pursue it too little. There is a beauty we should seek that surpasses all others and never fades. C.S. Lewis wrote, “The sweetest thing in all my life has been the longing…to find the place where all the beauty came from.”
King David expressed his singular desire to “behold the beauty of the Lord” (Psalm 27:4). He was enraptured by the beauty of God’s holiness, goodness, compassion, graciousness, love, and many other attributes because, as the Bible tells us, “He is altogether lovely” (Song of Solomon 5:16).
True beauty is seeing His perfection in our reflection.
When we know we possess the most epic beauty known to humanity inside of us, we don’t seek validation from anyone else. We are on a mission to redefine cultural standards of beauty. We are women who embody the unfading beauty described in Scripture.
If we want to be a clear reflection of who God is and who He designed us to be, let us become students of His beauty.
Darling, you are a work of art.
You have the ability to fully display beauty apart from vanity, influence apart from manipulation, style apart from materialism, kindness apart from passivity, strength apart from competition, and dignity without degradation.
You are a catalyst to transform the world around you through your wit, wisdom, character, and courage—all the while creating beauty and embodying love.
You are not only interesting, but original, not only good enough, but exceptional—not just here, but here for a purpose.
